Pistol Review: Hackathorn Special Commander - Wilson Combat's Special Edition 1911

Wilson Combat teamed up with world-renowned firearms trainer and consultant Ken Hackathorn to develop the contemporary Hackathorn Special Commander 1911. When developing the Hackathorn Special Commander, Hackathorn’s decades of extensive experience in small arms came to fruition and the result was simply phenomenal.

The Hackathorn Special Commander is based on an earlier collaboration between Hackathorn and Wilson Combat. The original Hackathorn Special was a full-size 1911 purposed toward defensive use, while the Commander model is built for concealed carry.

The Commander size version of the Hackathorn Special is geared towards the needs of the concealed carrier who prefers this model's shorter 4.25” bushing barrel and full-size frame. It features Wilson Combat’s Bullet Proof magwell that facilitates easier reloads, as well as a hammer and grip safety designed for easy concealment.

As Hackathorn’s preferred trigger style, the pistol comes equipped with a versatile medium-length trigger.

Since this model is equipped to Hackathorn’s preferred customization, the pistol comes loaded with a wide variety of features. The frame features 30 lines-per-inch (LPI) checkering on the front strap of the grip along with Starburst-pattern grips manufactured from G10 fiberglass laminate. The Hackathorn also comes equipped with Wilson’s tactical Bullet Proof thumb safety, Bullet Proof mag release and a countersunk slide stop.

Moving onto the slide, the Hackathorn features 30 LPI checkering on top of the slide and 40 LPI checkering on the rear in order to reduce glare. It also equipped with a Battlesight rear sight, in conjunction with a high-visibility fiber-optic front sight. Inside the slide, users will find a stainless-steel match-grade barrel that features a flush-cut reverse crown and a fluted chamber hood.
