Pistol Review: The SIG Sauer Legion P229 w/ ROMEO1 Red Dot

SIG Sauer's Legion Series is based upon a line of top-end SIG Sauer pistols equipped with every upgrade and tactical feature the military-minded gunmaker can muster. SIG took the P229, which already has a reputation that puts it among the elite handguns on the market, and gave it professional level upgrades that ensure accuracy, reliability, and modern-age ergonomics.

THE DESIGN

All of the benefits of the P229 are enhanced through SIG Sauer's Legion Series and the use of SIG Sauer's premier line of reflex mounted pistol optics. The features provided out-of-the-box by the Legion Series are quite extensive, improving the overall ergonomics and reliability of the pistol.

The pistol is finished in a proprietary Legion gray PVD coating which is considered one of the best and most environmentally friendly method of coating and provides the rough gray Legion look.

The P229 is outfitted with custom G-10 grips that are simply fabulous, with varying densities of the diamond pattern on different parts of the grip. SIG also included fine checkering situated around the trigger guard to enhance grip. An X-Five undercut has been applied to the trigger guard, allowing for a higher grip and greater control.

The slide is incredibly smooth to operate especially with the front and rear cocking serrations that allow for greater grip while cycling the action and clearing the firearm.

The P229 is outfitted with a SRT (Short-Reset Trigger) that is augmented with a Grayguns, Inc. designed P-SAIT trigger. The DA trigger pull is comparable to any customised gun. It is incredibly smooth with a polished and tuned action that translates to easier trigger manipulation on strings of rapid fire.

SIG also outfitted the P229 with an excellent set of Electro-Optics X-RAY high visibility day/night sights. This 3-Dot tritium system has a superior glowing illumination in low-light and remains bright and white for daylight conditions.

THE ROMEO1

The ROMEO1 features a glass molded aspheric lens with high performance coatings for superior light transmittance and zero distortion.

Three MOA Red-Dot with multiple intensity settings ensures rapid target engagement under a full range of lighting conditions with an extremely strong and lightweight, aircraft grade, CNC Magnesium housing ensuring a lifetime of reliable service even when immersed in water. The ROMEO1 has an IPX-7 rate that allows for complete immersion up to 1 meter and fog-proof performance.
